Exterior Paint / Latex over oil based
Here at DeMaris Restoration & Design, LLC we have a full disclosure policy. In an effort to improve every aspect of our
business, if we run into a challenge we are unable to explain then we make every effort to find out why it happened. All of
our work has a full warranty as described in our contract and will repair any such problems. We will add to this page as
we come across problems we can't explain. These problems are few and far between, but everyone runs into a new
challenge on these older restorations. We just hope this helps you with your challenges.
Some time ago we painted a home that had 3 coats of oil based paint on it. We planned on using a good
latex paint on it with a good adhesive primer. We scraped all the loose paint off and sanded the home to
make the primer adhere better and to feather out the chipping of the old paint. One year later the old oil
based paint failed under the latex paint. We looked into why this happened. We found this article in "This
Old House" that probably explained it the best to us. Click on the paint brush on the left to see the article.
